2014 Symposium: Understanding Identity
This year, the theme for the Power and Privilege Symposium is “Understanding Identity”. We chose this theme because we wanted to engage the Whitman community through the discussion of how race, gender, sexuality, class, religion, ability, and more, intersect and function simultaneously rather than independently. Our goal is to question how we interact as a community, how our similar and differing identities connect us with the people around us and how we can develop a deeper and more intimate community. The Symposium will be held on February 20th, 2014, with a keynote address from Dr. Tricia Rose the night before.
This is an opportunity for members of the Whitman community to come together and engage in difficult, thoughtful and honest conversation.
